How to Deal with Suppression and Difficult Emotions

When emotions are suppressed, they do not disappear; they transmute into burdens the body
must carry. Every unspoken truth, every swallowed grief, and every ignored pain becomes
stored in our body down to a cellular level and in our nervous system, both of which are the very
fabric of our being. The body (soma) is not a passive vessel; it is a living archival library of all
our experiences and translates suppressed emotions into physiological expressions.

Chronic tension, fatigue, digestive issues, autoimmune disorders, and even more severe chronic
illnesses can often be traced back to emotional stagnation. Additionally, from a shamanic
perspective, experiences and events carry energy. When these experiences are suppressed or
repressed, the energy from these experiences creates an energetic imbalance in the soma.

Suppression is not the same as erasure. What we refuse to process or avoid does not cease to
exist; instead, it festers. Like an open wound. These issues linger in our fascia, constrict our
breathing, disrupt our microbiome, and alter the rhythm of our heart. The body, in its infinite
wisdom, does not forget; it adapts. However, adaptation under emotional distress leads to
dysfunction. A clenched jaw becomes migraines, unexpressed rage turns into inflammatory
disorders and autoimmune diseases, deep sadness manifests as chronic fatigue, and the inability
to speak one’s truth constricts the throat chakra, often leading to thyroid imbalances.

Energy must flow. Emotion, derived from e-motion, meaning “energy in motion”, demands
expression. If it is denied a pathway out, it will find its way inward, often in destructive forms.
The key to healing is not avoidance but alchemy: transforming what is trapped in the body into
something that is released and liberated. This is why guttural crying, intentional movement,
authentic self-expression, and even primal screaming can have profoundly healing effects.
These physiological processes are not weaknesses. They are necessary releases that dissolve the density and heaviness of suppressed emotional and trauma wounding before they morph into dis-ease.

Every emotion holds a message, a vibrational frequency, a truth that longs to be acknowledged.
The more we honor the wisdom and language of the body, the less we need to carry in silence.
Healing begins with our permission to feel, to express, to move energy outward instead of
turning it inward against ourselves. The body is not the enemy; in fact, the body loves you so
much it chose to hold the wounding for you so you could live your life. Your body is your best
friend and a messenger of truth. Listen, release, and allow yourself to experience the freedom of
letting go of suppressed adverse feelings, emotions, and even trauma wounding.
